About Glenlethnot Farm

Mr H Copland divided the farm into four in the 80's with ours being direct neighbours to his home block. Copland family since sold all remaining land 2006 to Solid Energy due to the existence of Croydon Coal Mine and coal mineral extraction. Glenlethnot Farm has an old lime pit that was used for production. Otago University regularly is out to excavate looking for sea fossils. A Pounamu/greenstone stone has been found and Iwi have since stated that it's a sacred piece from the Dart River. A Maori Oven was accidentally excavated while doing drainage in 2007 and being quite a high altitude overlooking the Tuturau/Mataura area, chief Paraparo was well known too the Waimumu district. Several Native bush areas on our farm are being protected by QE II Trust and Oven will be an Archaeological site more info

Black Gold known as COAL is substantial in the region from Mataura, Waimumu, Croydon Bush to Waimea. The seam of Coal lies underneath the lush pastures minerals estimated 200-300 meters deep at Croydon Mine (dillers stated) which boundary our property waiting to be excavated in a valley crossing numerous farms, thousands of acres seen clearly in the landscape from Ships Cone especially. Solid Energy, Fonterra Milk Factory, Alliance, Silver Ferns, Tiwai Smelter and Dongwha Fibreboard Plant are significant enterprises in the Community for employment.

Our mission plan is to extend accommodation in the future with individual units and develop more. Farm being part of annual Moonshine Trail Ride Event, NZ Postal Destination Stamps and Maori history have highlighted the vital understanding to make this property a unique business by keeping precious and protecting.
